Reflection on JoyHanlin Unit 3 Teaching

Lesson: JoyHanlin Junior High Unit 3

From my peers' teaching demonstration, I learned some ways to teach certain topics.

1. Drawing a face to teach related vocabulary.

a. The teacher asked students to draw a face of their own; meanwhile, she drew a face on the blackboard as well.
--> Teachers can also draw a arrow sign between the word and part of the picture.

b. When the teacher showed other students' work, she used their drawing to review the vocabulary again. (Another way is to say the words and touch the body part to make the connection between words and physical part.)

2. The second thing I like about my peers' teaching demonstration is to use the game "Frontline Support" to practice grammar "has, have".

a. Teachers could ask students to sit in groups. Then, ask one person from each group to stand in the front.

b. Teachers then give orders such as " I need a pencil". After hearing the order, students from each group have to give their team member who stands in the front the assigned object.

c. The fastest team would get one point. Later, all students have to repeat the sentence "XXX has a pencil".

d. The game could be challenging when teachers name at least 4 or 5 items at the same time.

e. The form "doesn't have, don't have" could be practiced as well. Teachers can ask students in the front to get many things first. Then, teachers can say "XXX doesn't ...". After hearing the order, students in the front have to put those things away.

3.The third thing I learned is that teachers can make a comparison chart of the reading "Basketball Players" in p33.

Name
Country
Height
Others
Yao Ming
China
226cm

Nate Robinson
United States
175cm
Jump 110 cm

a. Teachers can ask students to fill information in the chart after reading the paragraph to check their comprehension of this reading.

4.The fourth thing I learned is to make a handout of famous sportsman to practice writing and listening. It's a handout with different information.

a. E.g. Handout A has a paragraph about Wang, the famous Taiwanese baseball player. Handout B has a paragraph about Zeng, the famous Taiwanese golfer.

b. Handout A has a paragraph about Zeng, but it's not complete. There are some blanks for students to fill in. Handout B has a paragraph about Wang, but it's not complete as well. Students have to listen to their partner to read out the paragraph to fill in the blank.
